Parts Overview

Factory Parts: aka OEM

  • New parts made by the vehicle manufacturer and are sold throught a new car dealership's parts department.

Pros:

  • Factory fitment and tooling
  • Matching factory part numbers.
  • Generally high quality and direct fitment with factory clips and parts

Cons:

  • Often time much more expensive than used or aftermarket parts.
  • May require a core deposit
Many Insurance policies state that aftermarket ot recycled parts may be used when available unless you specifically request new part only coverage which may come at an additional cost. Be sure to read you policy.

Aftermarket Parts: aka LKQ

  • Parts made for specific year make and model that replicate factory look but manufactured by company independent of EO mfg.

Pros:

  • Factory-like look and fitment.
  • Quality/Price ranges from high to low
  • Certified parts available
  • Generally less cost than factory parts

Cons:

  • May require some modifications or "finesse" for proper alignment
  • May be non certified or possibly made of a lesser quality material
  • Insurance may require use of these parts when available for cost savings (read your policy.

 

Sometimes aftermarket parts get a bum rap for being inferior. This is often true but there are some aftermarket munufacturers producing top quality parts. This generally mean factory like quality with less cost.

Reconditioned Parts: aka Used Refurbished

  • Used factory or aftermarket parts that have been refurbished to a like-new state.

Pros:

  • Factory-like fitment, especially when factory recond part
  • Cost savings

Cons:

  • Some recond parts may have flaws typical of used parts
  • Some recond parts my hide poor previous repairs
  • Generally not warrantable

 

I generally suggest avoiding these parts as "refurbishing" may actually mean a poor quality repair by an unqualified warehouse employee.

Recycled Parts: aka Used Unrefurbished

  • Used factory or aftermarket parts that has not been refurbished to a like-new state.

Pros:

  • Factory-like fitment, especially when factoryrecycled part
  • Cost savings
  • Generally all damage or previous repair are visible

Cons:

  • Recycled parts may have flaws or wear typical of used parts
  • Parts may require some repair to get to a like new state.
  • Generally not warrantable

 

These parts can be ordered through Red Star from the areas top salavge yards or found at a "Pick and Pull" type facility. We do not go to "Pick and Pull" to get parts for customers. Sorry.

Restyling Parts: aka "body kits"

  • New parts that can be either year make model specific or universal generic fitment

Pros:

  • Quality restyling parts can add style and a custom look to your car ot truck
  • Generally less than new factory parts.
  • Many different looks for different tastes
  • High quality parts may mount to factory mounting points with little modification

Cons:

  • Poor quality parts may require custom fabricated mounting options and or midification which can get very costly
  • May have to inform insurance carrier of these parts and supply receipt to insure proper coverage

 

Restyling parts can be a ton of fun and give your vehicle a unique and personalized look if done right. But be warned, there are many very poor quality restyling parts out on the market. Do your research or contact us before buying.
